Interview with Lyda Ruijter, Director of Seniors Helping Seniors

My guest Lyda Ruijter has recently started a business that will be of great service to the community. She is the owner and Director of the franchise Seniors Helping Seniors. This business provides non-medical compassionate care to Seniors in need by Seniors who enjoy helping others.

Ms. Ruijter was born in the Netherlands and her European sensibility about community and making a difference is evidenced by her involvement in community political initiatives. Her experience in helping older people was part of her inspiration to provide quality care that is compassionate, professional, and imbued with the belief that our older citizens have great strengths and deserve the kind of attention that maintains their diginity. Ms. Ruijter has respect for their abilities, life experience, and wisdom. Her leadership skills in developing a team that can give a unique and special kind of personal attention bodes well for the success of this endeavor.

This program is being broadcast on Tuesday, January 22nd at 10pm and on Thursday, January 24th at 5:30pm.  It will repeat on subsequent Tuesdays and Thursday at the above times to February 14th, 2013.

 
ABOUT LYDA RUIJTER:

Born in a small village in the Netherlands, Lyda graduated from the University of Utrecht, Netherlands with a Masters in Sociology where her areas of study were family therapy, criminology, methodology and statistics. She worked as the Field Director for a government study on victums of crimes and was Regional Coordinator for the  organization, Humanitas. She came to the U.S. to study and graduated with a P.H.D. in Linguistics,from the University of Wisconsin-Madison;  Ms. Ruijter worked in various academic positions in the departments of Linguistics, Education and English at UW-Maidson: U of Minnesota,Minneapolils; Macalester College (St. Paul, MN) and U of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

After moving to New York State with her family, Lyda founded The Language Exchange in Rye, N.Y. in 1994 and opened two additional branches, The Language
Exchange in Chappaqua, N.Y. 1997 and the Language Exchange in Greenwich, CT
in 2000.. She recently started her new business Seniors Helping Seniors in 2012. Lyda is an active participant in the community and in politics and was elected as a delegate to the National Democratic Party Convention in Denver CO in 2008.
